I’m Black Every Month

I’m Black Every Month

Used to be like black Christmas when February came around
All those inventions
All those inventors
All of the celebrations
All of the events
All of those school assignments
All of those athletic accomplishments
All of the musical genii
What is it for?
Why the need to celebrate black life?
Does it bother others in the race to respect the one skin color?
When do we celebrate the other colors?
Shouldn’t we celebrate humanity daily?
Was the abuse of the black race so horrific that this is a need for atonement?
Is it a plot of alienation?
Am I to be proud for only this month?
What do I do about the other eleven months?
Am I a viable human life form in January, March, April to December?
Are other humans less in February if they are not black?
Am I less for the other eleven months?
Am I wrong to question?
Shouldn’t we all ask these questions?
My ‘history’ was written by the European
There were many lies told
Making black or native people celebrate Columbus is truly degrading
There are many pieces missing
Does this black history month make me feel more empowered?
Does it elevate the human race to glorify this one skin color?
Am I a traitor if I don’t choose to celebrate this honor bestowed on my skin?
Is this yearly celebration a distraction?
Has this yearly celebration improved the relationship with law enforcement?
Do the people of Flint feel elevated this February?
How about those in Ferguson?
Are black people still being murdered by the laws of the land?
Are less black men being incarcerated?
Has it aided black film makers in Hollywood?
Why should black actors care?
Is black history taught to law enforcement?
Why is there still a need for ‘sensitivity’ training for law enforcement?
Are more opportunities being created for or by black countries?
Does the GNP rise in black countries during February?
Why do we seek validation from those who hate black skin?
Are black people to receive better treatment in February?
Or are we to expect more resentment?
What is the message to black children?
What is the message to non-black children?
